AI learns to decode the "language" cells use to communicate

Researchers from MIT used AI to understand how cells exchange signals with each other.

Science

What happened

Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) reported new work: using AI, they tried to figure out how the body's cells "talk" to each other.

Cells constantly exchange signals. For example, they can pass each other information about what is happening around them and perform certain functions together in the body. These signals are similar to messages, but they are written with chemical molecules rather than words.

Why it matters

The language of cells is still only partly understood. AI is good at finding patterns in large data sets, so it can be used to find order in these signals that is hard for a human to notice manually.

Such research helps us better understand how a living organism works. On its own, it does not mean ready-made solutions for treatment, but it can become the basis for future scientific discoveries.

Detailed conclusions, methods, and results of the study are available in the original MIT News article. If you are interested in the topic, it is worth reading the primary source.
