Canva releases its own image model that plans the design first
Design service Canva has unveiled its first image generation model, which considers the composition before drawing.
What happened
Canva, a popular service for creating designs, presentations and posts, has launched its own AI model for image generation. It is called Canva Craft. According to the company, it competes with models created by OpenAI, Microsoft and Google.
The key feature of Canva Craft lies in how it works. The model operates in two stages: first it plans the design, and only then creates the image. The company says this approach provides “greater accuracy, consistency and control” over the result.
Why this could be useful
Typically, tools that create images from text draw the picture right away, and the result sometimes turns out unexpected. When a model first makes a plan, it effectively considers where to place each element before it starts drawing. For people who make posters, posts or presentations, this may mean fewer attempts and more predictability.
Canva released the new model amid intense competition among major tech companies in image generation. For now, it is clear that Canva wants to offer such tools right inside its service.
